Team Philippines Bagged an award in World Cosplay Summit 2021
World Cosplay Summit, also known as WCS, is an annual international cosplay event established in 2003, which promotes global interaction through Japanese pop culture.
In 2020, the summit was cancelled for the first time due to the COVID-19 pandemic. And in place of the event, they held a 24 hour live stream fund-raising event and a kickstarter campaign to support the event in Japan and its partner organizations around the world.
This year, WCS was successful on conducting their first online event! Representative teams sent their video performances and was judged online and in person during the event.
Team Philippines aka Team Namikaze are our representative this year - composed of AC and Jin
.I have my fair amount of time spent in the cosplay community here in the Philippines and I can say that these two are one of the pillars of the community. They always deliver the highest quality on their cosplay sets and you can really see their passion on everything they do! I have been a silent follower of these two - but hey! Hello! If you get to read this!
The World Cosplay Championship - Video Division was held at Nagoya and our very own Team Philippines won the 1st special prize of the Costume Making Category.
They cosplayed Jiraiya and Naruto respectively from the anime series Naruto. Look how they perfectly portrayed these characters!
If you were unable to catch the online stream of the championship, you can watch their video entry here:
It was a proud moment for the whole cosplay community when their names were called out! A very well deserved recognition!
As announced, UK grabbed the 3rd place of the video division championship with their Final Fantasy VII entry. Italy got the 2nd place with their Legend of Zelda skit and Germany won the 1st prize with their Final Fantasy VII Remake entry.
It has been extra hard for the cosplay community while this pandemic is causing trouble for everyone. Cosplay is a hobby but mostly an escape, a stress reliever and an extra reason to bond with friends too; we are thankful that WCS is one of the organizations that has kept the community alive, interactive and accessible to cosplayers worldwide.
I am looking forward to World Cosplay Summit's 20th Anniversary next year. And I hope that the pandemic is resolved by then.
