First Impression and Thoughts

I am always hesitant on watching remakes of old series but due to my friends' persuasion and insistence that the series is not related to the original one, I tried watching it.

First season was a good introduction of the characters, Sabrina, Aunt Zelda and Aunt Hilda. They put in a Cousin Ambrose in the mix too. They started season one with Sabrina's upcoming dark baptism. Since Sabrina is half mortal and half witch, it was a nice balance of presenting Sabrina's double life; with her high school friends not knowing about her being a witch and her hesitation on continuing with her dark baptism.

What I'm peeving about is how selfish Sabrina is. It's like, if Sabrina's not this selfish, we won't be having a story to tell. lol

The succeeding seasons were just Sabrina levelling up with her selfishness. Yes, she was able to give up Harvey to Roz, but c'mon, we know that she could've stayed in love with Harvey if she hadn't met Nick. She also only told her friends that she's a witch because they figured it out on their own and they asked her about it like real friend should. I am not hating - and I'd say it again, "if it weren't for Sabrina's selfishness, we don't have a story".

If I may be honest, I continued watching when Salem was introduced and they showed a glimpse of his demon form. It was really cute. And I love that they didn't make him talk at all.

The other thing that got me excited was when the original (as I have known) Aunt Zelda and Aunt Hilda had a cameo in the series. It was one of those classic western plot twists of alternate reality - and it was literally an alternative universe.

What I love

• I love Salem!
• I love the character development of Prudence.
• I love Lilith's persona change. Michelle Gomez' performance was really good, I would watch a series dedicated to her!
• I love how they mentioned famous witches and other historical figures in the series.
• I love how they reversed everything, "False God", "go to heaven", "what in Satan's name"…. - it gave more character to the actors playing the role and was so believable that they are actual witches.
• I love that there were no broom flying! Actually, there were no brooms at all, if I can recall.
• I love how they focused more on the witch part at the latter part of the season. - The association of the witches to Lucifer was totally trashed when they "beat" him.

Things I hope could've happened

• I wish they didn't went on with the "two" Sabrina's. They did it twice on the series. It wasn't confusing, it's just too much to have so many characters when you would kill them all afterwards.
• I wish they could've just let Faustus die when he was suppose to die. I know he is sort of a "divine" something with the dark Lord but was still capable of dying before he had the mark of Cain.
• I wish they focused more on Sabrina's development as a witch and not consistently selfish on all four seasons.
• I wish they didn't made Suzie a Theo. - I really love Suzie as she was.

Overall Rating (3/5)

Yes, it's 3 out 5 stars for me. Would I recommend friends watching it? - Yes.

But it's not a series I'd be rewatching when I get bored or want to feel good with or rewatch for the rest of my life.

If you like a series that delves with witchcraft, Satanic rituals and magic, this is a good watch for you. The amount of gore is tolerable - it's there but it is not disgusting or mortifying at all. It was entitled as Chilling Adventures of Sabrina after all.
